Welcome to barwon downs

Barwon Downs is a small country town in Victoria, Australia. Located in the foothills of the Otway Ranges. The township was proclaimed on 10 May 1910.

The main industries in the area are dairy, agriculture and forestry.

The town has a Community Hub, Playground, Public Amenities, a Public Hall and tennis courts. Barwon Downs also has a local Country Fire Authority (CFA) with volunteer members from the local community.

Since the 1980s an aquifer in the Barwon Downs area has been used as a supply of water for Geelong in periods of drought.

About us

The Barwon Downs Community Group was conceived in August 2004 by a group of Barwon Downs residents who wished to promote social and recreational opportunities for the district and to provide a focus group for the ongoing development of the town.

We held our first Inaugural meeting on the 21st August 2004, formed to represent, listen to and advocate for the needs of Barwon Downs residents.  It is solely run by volunteers who endeavour to help the community with events & fundraisers.  We have Morning teas on the first Sunday of each month.  Our Annual Christmas Spit Roast Luncheon is always popular!

PAST GRANTS

We would like to acknowledge and thank the Colac Otway Shire Council for helping to fund this Hardwood Floorboards Makeover project 2022/23.

Without their financial support, this wouldn't have been possible.

Another big shout out to Roarin Floors!  Thanks so much, it looks amazing!

Out with the old and in with the new! (February 2023).

Our new blinds have been installed. Thanks to Bretts Flooring Xtra in Colac for removing the old ones and putting up the new ones (and for the pictures).

A HUGE thankyou goes to FRRR for providing us with the much needed funds to make this happen.

I must admit, the new ones look very snazzy!

The Barwon Downs Community Group were lucky enough to be awarded a grant from the FRRR Strengthening Rural Communities Grant program (July 2024).
With the funds we received, we were able to replace the old rotting timber on our outdoor seating with all new timber!
We were also able to purchase 2 slimline dishwashers.
We are extremely grateful to FRRR for their continued support, thankyou 💓
Thankyou also to Ball & Croft Betta, Hester Foley Plumbing, Custom Kings, Edney Electrical & Hayden Hickey Family Trust.
